For more than 40 years, Andy Brown was an avid motorbike rider, spending countless weekends outdoors doing what he loved.

Now, the 60-year-old can barely walk after a crash left him permanently disabled.

Brown had been cruising down Anzac Highway in Adelaide when an allegedly drunk driver ran over his motorbike and left him for dead.

Chilling dashcam footage of the crash showed the car plough into Brown.

The vision shows his bike being hit from behind, with the SUV driving right over him.

The collision caused Brown to break his neck.

“Ploughed into me, 60km/h, hadn’t braked, and just straight into the back of my bike,” he told 9News.

Police say the driver, a 30-year-old woman who had two children in the car, was nearly three times the legal alcohol limit.

She then allegedly fled the scene.

“She roared off. Left me for dead in the middle of the road,” Brown said.

“It’s the one thing I absolutely loved to do.”

Brown’s partner Chantel Alsworthy said she couldn’t believe he had survived the crash.

“When I got the call, I thought he was dead,” she said.

“She ran over his head and his chest.”

The past 18 months have been a battle, even forcing Brown to step down from his job as a postman.

Doctors have told him he’ll now live with permanent disabilities.

“He was in hospital for a few weeks, in the Royal Adelaide and then we moved to Flinders (Medical Centre) for rehab, and then driving him backwards and forwards, from home to rehab to get him to start walking again,” Alsworthy said.

“Just trying to watch him do that again was hard.”

Despite the couple’s pain, they’re determined to educate others on the.

“Learn to take care, watch the road, (don’t) drink and drive, just go at the speed limit,’ Brown said.

“There’s so many things they can do to help everybody.”

The alleged drink-driver will face court in April.
