Police are investigating whether alcohol played a part in a car crash in Sydney’s west last night that left a man with serious injuries.

A 30-year-old driver was behind the wheel before his car rolled several times while travelling on York Road in Penrith just after 11pm last night.

CCTV footage caught the moment the car lost control, flying across the road before it rolled several times.

The car barely missed a lamp post, a no-stopping sign, and local Joshua Sabaten’s front fence.

”At first (I) thought someone would’ve hit the house,” Sabaten said.

The driver managed to escape with the help of neighbours, who heard the crash.

“It was a big bang, (it) hit something, then we could just hear the car roll, roll, roll,” one resident told 9News.

“People started to come from all the houses, there were quite a few people down there all gathered around the guy,” another said.

The 30-year-old sustained serious back injuries.

Locals told 9News that a car was seen driving around the same road earlier that night, with some saying they heard tyres screeching before the crash.

Police are investigating whether alcohol and speeding played a factor in the crash.
