A child in a pram and an adult have been killed at a train station.

The pram fell onto the tracks when the 40-year-old man tried to rescue the two-year-old boy at Carlton Railway Station, south Sydney, at 12.25pm on Sunday.

The train then began to move with the pair dying at the scene.

Another two-year-old boy had been in the pram, but he was not injured. A 39-year-old woman with the group also escaped injury.

NSW Police urged the public to avoid the area.

‘Emergency services are at Carlton Railway Station after an incident on the tracks,’ a statement on X read.

‘The public is urged to avoid the area. The investigation is ongoing.’

Trains are not running between Wolli Creek and Hurstville on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line.

‘We are arranging replacement buses, however none are available right now,’ Sydney Trains said on X at 1pm.
