Workers have prepared for the historic event, which is one of the world’s longest-running electoral processes.
The conclave takes place the Sistine Chapel with the backdrop of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s fresco The Last Judgement.
The chapel, with its spectacular ceilings and stained glass windows, will close its doors to all except the 133 cardinals.
