A car has smashed into five other vehicles on a major Adelaide road this morning, causing significant traffic disruptions during peak hour and racking up extensive damage bills.
9News has obtained exclusive CCTV footage of the car leaving a trail of destruction about 9.30am
One witness, Roman Mukhi, estimated the Mazda’s speed to have been “about 100km/h”.
One of the damaged vehicles belonged to 84-year-old Rosslyn Laidlaw, who had just arrived at a nearby hairdresser.
“All of a sudden there was this bang, and then it went bang, bang, bang, bang and the hairdresser said, ‘Oh my god, that’s four cars’,” Laidlaw said.
Witnesses reported seeing the Mazda driving erratically on the median strip prior to the collisions, before it came to a stop on the opposite side of the road.
Despite the extensive damage, no injuries were reported.
The 79-year-old male driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital as a precaution, but didn’t have any invisible injuries.
Traffic was restricted in both directions for several hours as emergency services attended the scene.
All vehicles involved were towed away before midday.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crashes are ongoing.
