A man has been airlifted to hospital after he crashed into a building in Melbourne's north-east this morning.

Police said the driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, crashed into a school building on McGregor Avenue in Healesville about 9.45am.

The 37-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
