The great debate that has dominated cricket has seemingly reached rugby league, as Australia NRL side Canberra Raiders mocked the England team over the stumping of Jonny Bairstow.

In England, Alex Carey and Pat Cummins have become public enemy No1 in England in the aftermath of Bairstow’s controversial dismissal on Day Five of the second Test at Lord’s.

The England batsman ducked a Cameron Green bouncer that was the last ball of the over, marked his ground and then walked forward to talk to batting partner Ben Stokes.

Carey seized the opportunity to throw the ball at the stumps and effectively ran Bairstow out – even though it was classified as a stumping.

The incident has reignited the debate between the adhering to the laws of the game and playing in the right spirit.

And the Raiders unsurprisingly appear to be on the side of the Aussie team, replicating the controversial moment after Jordan Rapana scored against St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday night.

The players used the corner flag as makeshift stumps, with the ball bowled towards Yorkshireman Elliott Whitehead, who  was chosen to play the role of Bairstow while Rapana bowled the football.

As the ball sailed through to the wicketkeeper, Zac Woolford, channelling Carey, Bairstow goes walkabout and he is routinely stumped, leading to wild celebrations among the players.

‘One of the all time try celebrations,’ the Raiders tweeted alongside a clip of the moment.
