Leavers has said while “there are more questions than answers” about what happened, it needs to be considered whether the national weapons database can be better.
“Should it be better where people move from state to state?” he said.

Leavers said having information about gun possession was important in keeping police safe when they were out doing their job.
”Because these tragedies should not take place,” he said.
“We are not used to seeing this in Australia. This is what we hear about in country’s like the United States and we need to be very careful. But we need to analyse that and that will be done in-depth.”
Leavers said plans for a vigil for fallen offices Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were still being arranged with their families.
