Buzzworthy Celeb Moments Decoded By Lip Readers

All eyes were on the courtroom during the highly-publicized defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. The former couple started dating in 2012 and got married in 2015, but just a year later Heard filed for divorce after she claimed Depp was physically abusive. Ultimately the two settled the matter after court and Heard dropped her request for a restraining order against her former husband.

The battle between the exes was far from over, however, as the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sued his ex-wife for defamation in April of 2022. The court case was brought about following Heard’s candid op-ed for The Washington Post in which she claims she was a victim of sexual violence. During the heated trial, viewers noted one particular moment in which Depp’s lawyer seems to celebrate a win for the defense. In the clip, Heard talks about an altercation involving her sister and Depp, mentioning that she swung at her ex-husband to protect her sister. She references an alleged incident on stairs that involved Depp and his ex-wife saying, “I don’t hesitate and wait. I instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs.”

Lip readers believe Depp’s attorney Ben Chew told him, “Don’t react. This is perfect!” after giving a fist pump and appearing animated following Heard’s statement. “He knew that might’ve won them the trial,” one user commented on the video. Whether or not it was truly a game-changer, only the jury knows. Ultimately, Depp won his case and was awarded $15 million in damages.
