One Burger King fan really can have it their way.
The fast-food chain opened a contest in February where fans could submit their own Whopper recipe — and now customers can try the finalists for themselves.
BK’s first-ever Million Dollar Whopper Contest saw burger lovers submitting ingredients for their dream Whopper with a chance to win $1 million and see their sandwich sold in restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
Now, Burger King and its “team of flame-grilled experts” have selected three finalists after reviewing more than 1 million submissions from guests who “let their imaginations run wild.”
The three fan-created Whoppers will be available at participating restaurants nationwide while supplies last later this fall, and diners will be able to vote for their favorite. The finalist with the most votes for their million-dollar idea will get the grand prize.
The finalists were narrowed down to:
- Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty topped with pickle ranch, lettuce, fried pickles, bacon and Swiss cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun. Created by Fabian of California.
- Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty topped with maple bourbon BBQ sauce, crispy onions and jalapeños, maple bacon seasoning, bacon and American cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun. Created by Calvin of California.
- Mexican Street Corn Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty topped with street corn spread, lettuce, tomato, Southwest seasoned tortilla crisps and Mexican spicy queso on a toasted sesame seed bun. Created by Kelsie of Nebraska.
“The Million Dollar Whopper Contest was all about taking ‘Have It Your Way’ to the next level, and we were blown away by the thought and creativity that went into the Whopper creations that were submitted,” Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer for Burger King North America, said in a statement.
“Selecting just three finalists was no easy task, but we’re confident guests will love these creative, delicious takes on the iconic Whopper sandwich, and can’t wait for them to be available in restaurants this fall.”
To vote on a Whopper finalist, you must sign up for a BK Royal Perks account.
The Whopper first debuted in 1957 and quickly became a signature of Burger King’s menu — and is even considered a “cultural icon.”
