A man who suffered serious injuries in a light plane crash (pictured) near Bunbury Airport last Friday has died

A man has died days after a horror light plane crash that saw him trapped in the aircraft for nearly half an hour.

Emergency crews were called after reports a privately-owned aircraft had crashed near the Bunbury Airport, 170km south of Perth, about 2.45pm on Friday.

WA Police confirmed the plane had crashed at the end of the runway on the eastern side of the South West Hwy.

The 63-year-old pilot was trapped in the aircraft after the crash but was extracted about 3.10pm.

Firefighters were forced to work for more than half-an-hour to remove him from the aircraft. 

He suffered serious injuries in the crash including a broken pelvis and several facial injuries.  

He was then assessed at the scene by St John Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

WA Police said on Tuesday the man had since died as a result of his injuries.

‘The 63-year-old male pilot has sadly died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash,’ they said. 

The ATSB has been advised of the crash and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
