A swimmer has gone missing after being caught in a rip at a popular Sydney beach – sparking a massive search operation.
Emergency services, including an ambulance rescue helicopter and a police boat, were called to Bronte Beach to reports of a man missing in the surf about 7:45pm on Sunday.
Another person is believed to have also been stuck in the rip but was saved.
A maritime police boat and a NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter were deployed to scour through the rough surf conditions for the man.
Footage from the scene shows the helicopter shining its search light across breaking waves at the bottom of nearby cliffs.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia its search efforts have since been suspended for the night.
Local police and Surf Lifesavers also aided in the search and could be seen conducting a ground search across the shoreline and off of the beach pool.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
More to come.
