British girl, 15, ‘is raped by 16-year-old tourist’ on Greek island

A 15-year-old British girl has reportedly been raped by an Italian tourist on the Greek island of Halki, just hours before fleeing the island by ferry.

Police have now launched a manhunt for the alleged suspect, said to be a 16-year-old from Italy who was on holiday on the island, west of Rhodes, with his family.

The alleged attack reportedly took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, between 4.30am and 5am, in the Pondamos area of Halki.

Following the alleged attack, the young Brit visited a doctor’s surgery with her mother, 55, causing the doctor to contact police.

With the help of the doctor, and her mother present, police examined the 15-year-old child, Greek outlet Dimokratiki reported. There was no child phycologist available on the island to provide further care.

Police have reportedly now acquired a series of witness statements and were able to identify the 16-year-old alleged attacker through social media searches.

But the alleged attacker had already left he island at around 8.30am that same morning, police said. He took a ferry with his family to Kamiro Skala, on the island of Rhodes, ready to board a flight back home.

Shown a social media image of the 16-year-old by police, the girl was able to confirm the identity.

Police are continuing their urgent search for the Italian 16-year-old. The preliminary investigation is being carried out by officials on the island of Halki and the prosecutor’s office also been informed.
