Bystanders gave the boy first aid and CPR at the scene until paramedics arrived but the boy died at the scene.
A driver is assisting police with their enquiries and an investigation into the crash is still in its early stages.
“We take these matter very seriously that investigation will be extremely thorough,” Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said
“Thank you to those people [at the scene], what a horrible thing to go through.
“I’ve experienced that as a sworn police officer, it’s a confronting thing.”
Flowers have been laid next to the carpark where the tragedy unfolded.
The school has released a statement which said the school community is “deeply saddened by the tragic incident”.
Counsellors have be called in to support those affected including staff, students and witnesses.
