Heavy fog is causing flight delays and diversions in Brisbane

Brisbane Airport is diverting a number of flights as the city wakes up to a thick layer fog.

Planes are being sent to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Meanwhile, other planes are circling above the airport, waiting for the fog to clear.

Visibility at Brisbane Airport dropped to 50m earlier this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a road weather alert for Brisbane because of hazardous conditions.

Queensland Police are urging motorists to drive carefully and adjust to the conditions.
