A boy has been rushed to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car on his way to school.

Emergency services were called to the confronting scenes on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville in Sydney’s inner-west on Monday morning after the boy was struck by a oncoming vehicle in a school zone.

Bystanders performed first aid on the boy until paramedics arrived.

He suffered deep cuts to his forehead and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Mick Corlis described the scene as ‘quite confronting’.

‘This child had a deep cut to his head with bystanders administering initial first aid,’ he said.

‘Paramedics then arrived and controlled the bleeding.

‘This incident was one of three accidents this morning to occur in school zones across the Sydney metropolitan region. Luckily none of the children were seriously injured.’
