Police say that at about 5.25pm yesterday, officers were called to a shopping centre near Warwick Road, Yamanto.
They found a 63-year-old woman, a Coles worker, with a serious injury.
Witnesses said the woman had a knife sticking out of her back.
She has since been taken to hospital for treatment.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested nearby a short time later. He has since been charged with attempt to murder.
He is due to appear before Ipswich Childrens Court today, January 14.
