A hit and run in Sydney‘s west is being described as a “cowardly act” after a driver hit a six-year-old boy on an e-scooter before driving off.

The child was riding his e-scooter while on school holidays when he was hit by a white Toyota Camry and left in the gutter.

The shock and disbelief is still fresh on Musgrove Crescent in Doonside.

Ian Maclean and his son Steve were fixing a car out the front of their house around 2.45pm yesterday and saw the whole thing.

“The driver stopped, got out to see how he was,” Steve said.

“He was saying ‘sorry, sorry, I didn’t see him’.

“I said ‘how can’t you see him?'”

“I said ‘pull over to the side’ and he just floored it and took off,” Ian said.

The boy, who lives 50 metres away, remains at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Westmead with fractures to his legs and hip as well as head injuries.

The six-year-old’s family is by his side and his community behind him.

Residents said they recognised the driver and said he could be a local resident.
