A 10-year-old boy is fighting for life after a police chase came to a crashing end south of Perth.

Four people were injured in the head-on smash about 6pm yesterday (9pm AEDT), including a man now facing several dangerous driving charges.

Police allege they tried to pull over a 29-year-old man with a disqualified licence driving an unregistered Ford Falcon in Baldivis, between Mandurah and Perth.

He allegedly accelerated away from police, sparking a brief pursuit before smashing head-on into a Mitsubishi ute along Mundijong Road.

Outside Rockingham Magistrates Court today, tensions were high as his friends showed their support.

The 29-year-old driver was charged with a raft of serious offences including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and reckless driving to escape police.

Among the Ford’s passengers, a 32-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy were both hospitalised – the boy with critical injuries – while an eight-year-old boy escaped unharmed.

The 29-year-old was under police guard at Royal Perth Hospital tonight.

A 60-year-old man behind the wheel of the ute was treated at Rockingham Hospital.
