Police officers have gone head to head with firefighters for the NRL’s first ever emergency round, honouring first responders.

This afternoon’s event included a surprise entrance from Bondi Junction hero police officer Inspector Amy Scott, who delivered the match ball in spectacular fashion at Sydney’s Allianz stadium.

Police rescue, highway patrol and even the water police were brought in to save the day in a “missing ball” skit.

After a video detailing the “search”, the police chopper landed on the pitch with the ball in the Scott’s safe hands.

With her was Jack Lucas, whose police office dad died last year.

When six people were killed at Westfield Bondi Junction in April, Scott shot dead the attacker, Joel Cauchi, stopping his terrifying stabbing spree.

“They’re [the Roosters] eastern suburbs and that’s our command, so it’s obviously very close to the heart,” Scott told 9News.

“The incident was obviously extremely traumatic for so many people so when people are so kind and acknowledge us in the way they have it’s really helped the healing process I would say.”

The day also saw the inaugural police verse firefighters league match.
