The body of a man who had been missing for the past week when his empty boat washed ashore has been found.
The 60-year-old Victorian man’s body was found in the water at Haywards Beach in Bermagui, on NSW’s South Coast, at about 5:30pm Monday.
His boat turned up empty on the same beach last Tuesday, sparking a large-scale search effort of the surrounding waters and land.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said the man is yet to be formally identified but it ‘is believed to be that of the missing man’.
Also known as Camel Rock Surf Beach for a rock formation that looks like a camel at it’s south point, the beach is known as a ‘surfing mecca’ to locals and a hotspot to fish for whiting.
