Police have found a body in the Yarra River in Melbourne in their search for a man who disappeared after he was swept away.

The 23-year-old man from Wantirna South was swimming in the river at Warrandyte North, in the city’s north-east, with friends just after 9am today.

Victoria Police said the man had gone into the river with three friends but was swept away by a fast-moving current.

The friends raised the alarm with police when they noticed the man had become separated from them.

Local Police along with Air Wing, Search and Rescue Squad and State Emergency Service searched the surrounding area.

Just before 1.30pm, authorities had found a body in the water.

While the body has yet to formally identified, it is believed to be the missing man, Victoria Police said.

A report is now being prepared for the coroner.

”The death is not being treated as suspicious,” Victoria Police said.
