Bills’ Damar Hamlin expected to be active for Week 4 for first time since cardiac arrest

Damar Hamlin looks like he’ll be back on the field in a regular season game for the first time since his scary moment last year.

Bills starting safety Jordan Poyer has already been ruled out for Week 4’s matchup with the Dolphins, which has paved the way for Hamlin to make a return to the gridiron, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport.

So far this season, Hamlin has been a healthy scratch for Buffalo’s first three games this season.

On “Monday Night Football” on Jan. 25, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during the first quarter of a game against the Bengals.

The game was then canceled due to the medical emergency, and Hamlin spent a week at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was in critical condition and on a ventilator.

In April, the team said he was “fully cleared” to play.

In August, Hamlin made a return to the field in a preseason game against the Colts, making three tackles after playing 24 snaps.

“Yeah, man, it felt good. It for surely felt like a little weight off my shoulders,” Hamlin said following Buffalo’s 23-19 preseason-opening win. “Amazing. It just makes me feel like I’m back in that element.”

Hamlin, a sixth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, emerged as a starter in 2022 and recorded 91 tackles and one forced fumble while playing in 15 games.

Buffalo, after losing its season opener to the Jets on “Monday Night Football” takes on a Dolphins team on Sunday that boasts the league’s best total offense and passing attack.

So far, Miami has averaged 362 passing yards per contest through three games.

On the flip side, Buffalo has allowed the second-fewest total yards on defense (253 yards per game) and has held opposing teams to just a tick over 142 passing yards per contest.
