Bill Maher Says He Wouldn’t Choose Joe Biden As His ‘Squid Game’ Partner

Last night on HBO‘s Real Time with Bill Maher, the 2024 presidential election was at the center of discussions.

Maher talked about how he’s getting so tired of the hyperbole when it comes to both candidates.

During Maher’s “New Rules” segment, he blasted Republicans and broadcast hosts such as Sean Hannity for claiming that “everything” is worse under President Joe Biden when that’s simply not true.

“It gets so dull hearing these talking points,” said the host, noting some of the common complaints including inflation. “The American dream is dead because Mars bars were $1 and are now $1.25,” he said mockingly.

Although Maher joked that he wouldn’t choose Biden as his partner for the Squid Game, he went over a list of things that are doing well under the current administration, including home ownership and energy output.

Despite these wins, Maher says “I know what you hacks on both sides will say before they say it.”

He posed the question, “Is it really healthy to blame every problem on Joe Biden?” He then noted the record numbers of voters who have registered as independents. “The reason for that is this kind of mindless partisanship.”

He added that both candidates are wasting their time on the campaign trail since everyone has already made up their minds.

“Look, this is going to be a long, grueling, and mostly pointless campaign, since everyone already knows which of the two elderly candidates they prefer to barely tolerate,” he quipped. “The one who can’t walk up stairs or the one who can’t walk down ramps.”

The show’s panel discussion included political commentators Van Jones and Ann Coulter, who chatted with Maher about The Kansas City Super Bowl victory parade shooting. Also appearing on the episode was Dr. Jean Twenge, professor of psychology at San Diego State University and author of Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and Silents―and What They Mean for America’s Future.

You can watch the “New Rule” segment above and catch new episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO. All episodes are currently streaming on Max.
