But the first police media release issued on Wednesday made no mention of the device being used.

Webb told 9News it took 36 hours to establish how the Taser was used.

“People have lots of opinions. I understand the community concern and outrage with what has been recorded,” Webb said.

The incident was captured on body-worn camera vision, which Webb said she had chosen not to watch.

“It’s not going to change my view about it,” she said.

The police officer who deployed the Taser has been stood down, pending an investigation.

The family of Clare Nowland released a statement today, expressing their “profound love and affection” for their mum, nana and great grandmother.

“Clare was a well respected, much loved and a giving member of her local community, Clare is the loving and gentle natured matriarch of the Nowland family,” the statement read.

“This is a most worrying and distressing time for our family and we are united in our support for Clare and for each other.

“We stand together. We thank everyone here in Cooma, the wider region and, in fact, the whole country and around the world for the outpouring of support for her and her ongoing battle with dementia —which touches so many.”
