What is glass skin?

  • The Korean beauty craze promotes dewy, poreless, and luminous skin
  • Glass skin should look super hydrated and ageless
  • K-beauty brands like Glow Recipe, Tonymoly, and Sulwhasoo have become wildly popular in the US
  • Their products help achieve this look

MehGlow shared a video as she applied a simple clear gel mask, which she had made herself, to her face.

The ingredients included a spoonful of ultra-hydrating aloe vera gel and a spoonful of coconut oil mixed together in a mug, until it develops a jelly-like consistency.

According to Healthline, coconut oil can help with inflammation and acne while keeping skin hydrated, while aloe vera absorbs easily into dry skin and can seal moisture in for that ‘glass skin’ effect that’s all the rage on social media. The gel within the thick leaves of the plant is known for its many soothing benefits, including  preventing wrinkles.

Commenters wanted to know if you’re meant to sleep in the mask all night or rinse it off, and Healthline experts advise leaving a light layer on all night.

This isn’t the only ‘better than Botox’ recipe the beauty expert has shared with her skincare obsessed followers.

In December, she made a mask using milk and scoops of cornmeal with olive oil mixed together in a bowl.

One commenter joked, ‘I just finished eating it I feel sick I’ll update you guys though,’ as another quipped, ‘Add an egg and you’ll have cornbread.’

Another person asked if they could still use the mask if they had oily skin, to which another commenter answered, ‘Please do not use olive oil if you have acne prone skin or oily skin. Jojoba oil is light enough and suitable for oily skin.’

Commenters flocked to the video to share their own DIY hacks, with one person suggesting rose water mixed with plain flour for a similar effect.

In another ‘better than Botox’ TikTok, the content creator uses ‘snail slime gel,’ which is often an ingredient in Korean beauty products, mixed with Vitamin E and lavender essential oil.

On YouTube, MehGlow offers up multiple masks with simple ingredients, like onion juice, tomatoes and chickpea flour.

The biography section of her page explains, ‘This channel is all about DIY on Skincare Remedies for how to achieve Korean Glass skin at home.

‘All of our recipes are proven, effective and affordable for everyone, our goal is to benefit everyone.

‘We offer natural, easy, effective, and proven recipes that treat all skin, hair, and body problems,’ the K-Beauty expert promises.
