A hiker who went missing on Queensland’s highest mountain has been found. 

The man, aged in his 20s, is understood to have been hiking in dense bushland near Josephine Falls Road on Bartle Frere, a mountain 70km south of Cairns, on Tuesday. 

He was last heard from at 6.30pm, prompting emergency services to launch a search on the 1,622m high mountain until late on Tuesday night.

The man was found shortly after search efforts resumed at 6am on Wednesday. 

A police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the man was ‘safe and well’.
