A massive riot has broken out at a juvenile detention centre with inmates lighting fires and scaling the roof.
Banksia Hill Detention Centre in Perth, Western Australia, was plunged into chaos as inmates staged a riot that began at 8.30pm on Tuesday.
Department of Justice spokeswoman said prison officers were attempting to rein in the out-of-control inmates.

‘A number of detainees breached their cells and began moving within the grounds and on the roof of the centre, lighting fires and causing extensive damage,’ she said.
Some 50 detainees have taken part in the riot and started fires and jumped onto the roof of the centre.
‘Attempts to negotiate with the detainees are continuing, and a number remain on the roof of the centre, throwing projectiles at frontline staff,’ the spokesperson said.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was called to extinguish the blazes.
Corrective Services Special Operations Group, a group that specialises in riots, is also on the scene.
