A three-month-old baby has died from the critical injuries he suffered in a horrific car crash that took his mother’s life two days earlier.

Emergency services rushed to Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd at Upper Caboolture, north Brisbane, about 2.30pm on Friday following reports a car hit a tree.

The 33-year-old mother, from Caboolture, was declared dead at the scene and her baby boy had critical injuries after being thrown from an approved baby seat.

The three-month-old was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where he died on Sunday afternoon.

Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price told reporters on Saturday the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

‘At this stage the investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd and has left the road, colliding with several large trees,’ he said.

‘The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. We are seeking any witnesses to the crash or any dashcam from the crash.

‘We are seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash. Most of the people that called in [on Friday] have come across the crash, they weren’t witnesses.’
