About 70 attendees were left violently sick, some of them hospitalised, following the wedding reception at The Park in Albert Park on Saturday night.
It’s now emerged that dozens of medical professionals who attended a conference at the same venue fell ill with similar symptoms just two days before the wedding.
The Victorian Department of Health said it is investigating the incidents.
“We are following standard process and working with Port Phillip Council and South East Public Health Unit to investigate the source of the outbreak and ensure all appropriate infection prevention and control measures are in place,” a spokesperson said.
The Park said its premises were inspected the day before the wedding, when no issues were found.
It said it is working with authorities to investigate the outbreak, and has been given the green light to continue operating in the meantime.

“In conjunction with the City of Port Philip Health Department we are continuing to investigate an outbreak of illness occurring after events at the Park on Wednesday 13 September and Saturday 16 September,” the venue said in a statement.
“On Friday 15 September, we received a routine health and safety site inspection from the City of Port Phillip, finding no issues with the health and safety practices.
“We have conducted a precautionary deep clean and have received approval from council to continue trading.
“We will continue to work closely with the City of Port Phillip to determine the cause of this outbreak and will keep our customers and impacted parties notified of the investigation’s findings.”
The outbreak is not believed to be linked to listeriosis cases recently reported in Victoria.
