More than one million Australians are believed to be exposed to damaging noise levels in the workplace, prompting Hearing Australia to urge workers to be aware of the danger.
Hearing Australia principal audiologist Karen Hirschausen has also called on workplaces to take more action to prevent damaging noise levels.
“Hearing loss can have devastating effects on a person’s wellbeing, contributing to mental health issues,” she said.

“It also has significant financial costs, with one study suggesting the total loss due to occupational noise-induced hearing loss was estimated to reach $29.7 billion.”
Noise above 70 decibels is considered dangerous, but many Aussies work in noisier environments – including some you might not suspect.
