From today, shoppers who sign up to OnePass with linked Flybuys accounts can collect five times the Flybuys points in-store at some of Australia’s big-name chains.

Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Bunnings have all signed up to the new scheme as well as online retailer Catch.

The deal means on an average purchase of $50, shoppers will collect 250 Flybuys points.

With OnePass membership costing $4 per month or $40 for a year, is it worth the cost of membership?

It really depends on how you want to use your Flybuys points – and how much you lay out at these stores each year.

If you convert your Flybuy points into Flybuys dollars, 250 points will net you roughly $1.25.

That means that if this is the only benefit you’re looking for from OnePass – and there are other deals available through the program – you’d need to accrue at least 8000 points annually to break even on the cost of a OnePass membership.

That’s around 32 $50 purchases a year, or just over one a fortnight, meaning the savings are likely to be minimal for the infrequent shopper, but could add up for those who regularly spend big at these stores.

However, if you plan on using these Flybuy points to purchase airfares via Velocity Frequent Flyer, the savings can be much greater.

Additionally, there are other benefits for OnePass members that could make your shopping more convenient and save you money if you shop online.

These include free online delivery on eligible items from Kmart, Target, Catch, Bunnings and Officeworks, express Click and Collect and 365 day change-of-mind returns.
