Tourists visiting New Zealand are soon to be slugged with new travel fees.

All overseas travellers will be charged between $18 and $36 to visit some of New Zealand’s most beautiful natural wonders.

That’s places like Milford Sound, Mount Cook, as well as Cathedral Cove and Tongariro Crossing, one of the most popular hiking tracks in the country.

The New Zealand government says this will raise tens of millions of dollars to go towards conservation efforts and creating new jobs.

The fee doesn’t kick in until 2027.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to meet with his NZ counterpart this weekend, with trade top of the agenda.

Albanese will be arriving in Queenstown on Saturday and he’s going to be given a traditional welcome before official meetings kick off with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

The pair are due to discuss increasing trade ties, as well as more co-operation on defence.
