Dozens of Sydney staff members working for online retailer The Iconic learned their jobs were on the line via email as the fashion platform announced 69 roles were likely to go.
A former staff member told 9news.com.au the group were told to check their inboxes to find out the status of their employment in a meeting with management yesterday morning.
The Iconic confirmed the email advised if they were among the 69 people whose roles were impacted by redundancies in Sydney.
The roles included people working as content writers, customer service representatives and in the retouching team.
A spokesperson for The Iconic told 9news.com.au a consultation process was underway to see if any roles could be redeployed.
The impacted staff make up 6 per cent of the workforce, with the “restructuring” part of an “organisational redesign to support the company’s next phase of development as it focuses on transforming into a platform business”, the spokesperson said.

“This has resulted in the rescoping of some role descriptions, role redeployment, streamlining some roles through role consolidation and in some cases, role redundancies.
“Our people have been our biggest priority throughout this process. We have been acutely focussed on limiting the impact on our people as much as possible, however, these necessary structural changes have unfortunately affected 69 roles.”
A spokesperson said the global company had found success working with shared international resources.
The Iconic is Australia’s biggest online retailer, selling Australian and International brands such as Adidas and Camilla to over 20 million customers a month.
The Iconic, which launched in 2011, is a subsidiary of Singaporean company the Global Fashion Company.
