An Australian woman who went missing while hiking in Canadian bear country has been found dead.
Julia-Mary Lane, 24, who moved from Brisbane to Alberta, Canada, in early January, was hiking on the Bear Lake Trail near the town of Kimberley, 870km east of Vancouver.
She was reported missing by her Canadian roommate, Janet Hamilton, in the early hours of Tuesday, Queensland time.
Ms Lane’s family had not heard from her since Saturday morning and held grave fears for her safety.
Her family confirmed on Wednesday morning that she had died in an ‘unfortunate hiking accident’.

Ms Lane had travelled out to the trail in British Columbia as part of a week-long road trip, according to Ms Hamilton.
Her housemate posted a message posted on a local Facebook group appealing for help finding the young Aussie after she went missing.
‘I haven’t seen my young Australian housemate, JM, since Saturday afternoon, and I’m wondering if anyone ran across her while hiking?
‘She came to Kimberley from Canmore just for a week, with plans to hike most days,’ Ms Hamilton said.
One responder said saying she and her husband may have seen JM walking on the trail on Saturday afternoon, while others offered to help search for her.
Ms Lane had been house-sitting while waiting to start a finance sector job in Canada and had been using her spare time to go on hikes.
Her family have asked for privacy.
