An Australian tourist is fighting for his life after collapsing outside his hotel in Bali.

Artemiy ‘Toma’ Stakhanov, 26, is currently being treated in the intensive care unit after collapsing outside his Kuta hotel on Thursday.

He had only been in Bali for two weeks before he was put into an induced coma.

Mr Stakhanov was presented to hospital with symptoms including respiratory distress, low glucose and high blood potassium.

His distraught mother Svetlana Coulson and his friend Leilani Reid, 25, have flown to the holiday island to be by the side of their loved one.

‘He’s improved phenomenally since we got here, from when I flew in on Thursday to today,’ Ms Reid said.

‘They’re planning to start the day by day process on taking him off sedation and the ventilator support.’

‘He’s got no more respiratory distress. The internal bleeding is no longer showing up.

‘Hopefully the recovery happens quicker than what they’re telling us … if we can get him in the care of Australia, that’d be great.’

Ms Reid revealed medical costs had already been piling up with the family owing $37,000 for his treatment.

‘The expenses are just far too much, it’s all a bit stressful just trying to figure out what to do about everything,’ she said.

A GoFundMe has been launched with more than $5,500 raised so far.

Mr Stakhanov is a big part of the dance and music community.
