The Australian island that inspired the Chronicles of Narnia fantasy films has been sold for $5.6 million.

Little Green Island, a short board ride from the Queensland city of Mackay, was snapped up by Australian buyers when it went to auction yesterday.

It was sold by American-British film producer and actor Douglas Gresham, who is the stepson of writer CS Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia.

Gresham, who lives in Malta, purchased the 25-hectare Queensland island for $2.45 million in 2009.

The property has a main house, pool with sea views and caretaker’s cottage as well as a freshwater lagoon and immaculate beaches.

The new owners are a family from Mackay who requested not to be identified.

The director of real estate agency Harcourts MackTown, Tina Sander, said she had fielded about 300 inquiries in the lead-up to the auction, but yesterday it came down to bidding by 10 parties.

“It’s an incredible result, an amazing result. I personally believe it’s worth every single penny of that,” she told 9News.com.au.

The tropical island also has another link to a famous person in former owner and creative thinker Edward de Bono.

The Maltese doctor and philosopher came up with the phrase “lateral thinking”. During infrequent visits to his island home, de Bono hosted corporate “think tanks”.
