An Australian-British tourist has tragically been found dead with ‘blood on his lips’ inside a villa in Bali.

Simon Atkin, 68, was found lying on the floor in a room at The Janan Villa in Sanur, south of Denpasar, on Monday morning.

An empty bottle of vodka was found next to him, along with medications, according to Denpasar Police.

It’s believed Mr Atkin, who was travelling on a British passport, was based in Cronulla in Sydney’s south.

‘Initial suspicion is that the victim passed away due to illness. Additionally, at the scene, medications and an empty Vodka bottle were found,’ a police spokesperson said.

The publication added many questions remain unanswered.

Mr Atkin’s body was transported to Sanglah Hospital for an autopsy to be conducted.

The cause of his death is yet to be determined.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for comment.

The Janan Villa is a three star hotel which is a 17-minute walk from Sanur Beach.

Sanur is a seaside town in Bali’s south-east popular with tourists for its long stretches of beach and colourful fishing boats along the shore.

Mr Atkin is among a number of Aussies who have either died in Bali or ended up in hospital in recent months.

Alcohol poisoning is common in Bali, where drinks are often laced with methanol.

‘People have been poisoned by alcoholic drinks contaminated with harmful substances, including methanol arak (a traditional rice-based spirit),’ Australian government’s Smartraveller website states.

‘Locals and foreigners, including Australians, have died or become seriously ill from poisoned drinks.’
