The Department of Defence APS careers website asks potential soldiers, sailors and aviators if they use alternate genders or are part of the LGBTQIA+ community

The Australian Defence Force has been accused of promoting ‘woke garbage’ after asking recruits about their pronouns and sexuality on application forms.

The Department of Defence APS careers website asks potential soldiers, sailors and aviators if they use alternate genders or are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

‘Which pronouns do you use: he/him, she/her, they/them,’ is the first question asked on the form.

Recruits are also queried if they ‘identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning (LGBTIQ+)?’

United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet slammed it as ‘woke garbage’, arguing  the country’s enemies would be laughing at us.

‘Whoever is coming up with this woke garbage for the Department of Defence should be fired immediately,’ he told the Courier Mail..

‘Our defence force allows men to wear dresses, I can just imagine our enemies laughing at us, it’s really quite sad.’

Applicants are also asked for their gender orientation, including options for ‘non-binary’ and ‘gender diverse’ under the ‘workplace diversity’ section.

‘There are only two genders, male and female,’ Mr Babet said.

‘There are only two pronouns, he and she. Anything else is a delusion and society must stop enabling lies to permeate as the truth.

‘We have a fighting force of approximately 57,000 and we need a minimum of 80,000, the military should be focused on that instead of wokeness.’

An ADF spokesman defended the questions included on the form.

‘Defence capability is reliant on our ability to attract and retain the best possible talent regardless of background, gender, age, culture, religion, ability or sexual orientation,’ he said.

‘Diversity and inclusion are critical to the successful delivery of Defence’s mission.

‘It is important that the Defence workforce reflects the communities that we serve.’

Daily Mail Australia contacted the Department of Defence for further comment.

As part of the national defence strategy announced in April, eligibility criteria will be expanded to allow more people to join the defence force.

From July, eligible New Zealanders will be able to apply to join the Australian military and after 90 days are expected to become Australian citizens.

Defence Personnel Minister Matt Keogh said the recruitment drive would not take people out of other countries.

‘These are people that have already made Australia home and we are providing them a fast-track to citizenship through joining the Australian Defence Force as well,’ he told reporters in Canberra.

Mr Keogh clarified in the press briefing that the option was available to all foreign nationals after the initial statement indicated a set group of nations.

Australia’s low unemployment rate made it difficult to hire defence staff and this announcement was aimed at increasing potential recruits, Mr Keogh said.

Non-citizens who want to join the military must have lived in Australia for at least one year before applying, must not have served in a foreign military in the previous two years and must be able to attain Australian citizenship.
