An Aussie woman has warned her fellow travellers to get ahead of a ‘disgusting’ cost-cutting trend she noticed while dining in Bali.
The influencer, known as Jetsetting Jacki’ was horrified to learn that vendors across South East Asia have begun giving customers used drinking straws.
‘You know what a lot a lot of these restaurants do in these countries to save money, they cut the end of the straws that mouths drank off and then just give you a used straw,’ she told her nearly 60,000 followers in a recent TikTok video.
‘It is really, really disgusting.’
In the video, Jackie holds up two uneven straws taken from a beachside restaurant she visited in Bali the previous day.
‘If you don’t want to be sharing a straw with a random stranger, I would be inspecting any straw that’s given to you from now on,’ she said.
‘Particularly if it’s someone selling you a coconut on the beach… they’re the type of people who will cut the straw and give you a used one.’
Aussies shared similar horror stories from their own travels in the comments.

One said they had experienced the same thing in an island off Thailand’s mainland while another said they had been given straws ‘with teeth marks in them.’
‘I always tie a knot in my straw when I’m travelling to prevent it being used again,’ they suggested.
‘I’ve brought my own stainless steel reusable one to bring with me,’ another said.
