A man was heading off to work in Brisbane CBD this morning when he was allegedly approached by a barefoot man armed with a knife who demanded his car keys.

Josh Lawton told 9News he was confronted while he was in his stationary car, just before 6.30am today.

“A guy ran up the side of my car, swung the door open,” he said.

The man allegedly threatened Lawnton with a knife and lunged towards him.

“Get out of the car f—-g give me the keys, I’ll stab you,” Lawton recalled the man saying.

“I 100 per cent thought I was going to get stabbed in that moment over my car.

“I just threw the car in reverse. Kind of damaged my door a bit, but I didn’t get stabbed.”

Lawton’s quick thinking scared off his alleged attacker, who bolted up the street.

Security from a nearby building showed the man shoeless and allegedly armed running from the scene while being pursued by tradies from a nearby job site.

But police said this incident wasn’t believed to be the man’s first attempted carjacking today.
