A man is on the run after robbing a National Australia Bank branch on the Gold Coast armed with a knife.

Police say the man with face coverings entered a bank on Griffith Street in Coolangatta about midday and demanded cash.

He left with a small amount of cash and was last seen walking along Chalk Street.

A man is on the run after allegedly robbing a NAB branch on the Gold Coast armed with a knife.

No staff or customers were physically harmed.

Officers are patrolling the area as part of the investigation.
