Apple Original Films has confirmed that the latest film from Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” will debut in theaters later this fall. The film is being released in theaters in partnership with Paramount Pictures and is set to open later this October.
Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the upcoming film.
Apple Releasing New Martin Scorsese Movie In Theaters This Fall
The western crime drama will open in theaters with a limited theatrical release on Friday, October 6 followed by a wide release on Friday, October 20. A global streaming release on Apple TV+ will follow that.
The theatrical release is part of Apple’s recent broader commitment to releasing its original films in theaters, per The Hollywood Reporter. Previously Apple would release its films on its streaming app or in a limited theatrical release. However, the tech giant plans to spend $1 billion to produce new films with wide theatrical releases to raise Apple’s profile in Hollywood. While Apple does not have the profile of other film studios, it did manage to release the 2021 film “CODA,” which won Best Picture in 2022, after acquiring the film at Sundance for $25 million.
Scorsese directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth, based on the bestselling nonfiction book of the same name by David Grann. The story is set in 1920s Oklahoma, and it follows the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, with the brutal crimes coming to be known as the “Reign of Terror.” DiCaprio stars in the film alongside longtime Scorsese collaborator Robert DeNiro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal.

DiCaprio will portray Ernest Burkhart in the film, the nephew of cattleman William Hale (DeNiro). Gladstone portrays Mollie Kyle in the film, an Osage woman who has inherited the oil fortune. Plemons is cast as Tom White, an ex-Texas Ranger investigating the murders.
The film will mark Scorsese and DiCaprio’s sixth feature film together. They began collaborating for the first time back with 2002’s “The Gangs of New York.” They continued working with each other over the years on multiple films, including “The Aviator,” “The Departed,” “Shutter Island,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
“The Departed” earned Scorsese the first Oscar for Best Director of his illustrious career. It also earned the Oscar for Best Picture in 2007. Their last feature together, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Director for Scorsese, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Jonah Hill, and Best Picture. DiCaprio won his first Academy Award for Best Actor in 2016 for his 2015 film, “The Revenant.”
Scorsese also produced the film alongside Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Lupi. DiCaprio serves as executive producer under his Appian Way banner along with Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer, and Niels Juul.
Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” starring DiCaprio, arrives in theaters later this October.
