Andrey Rublev hits himself with racket seven times in bizarre Wimbledon meltdown

Andrey Rublev couldn’t control his temper yet again during his first-round match at Wimbledon against Francisco Comesana.

The Russian began violently smashing his racket on his knee after his return went out of play during the third set of the match.

The outburst started almost immediately as the ball went out of bounds, and Rublev hit the racket against his knee, causing some injury to his body.

Rublev never was able to regain his composure after the moment and he went on to lose the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

After the match, Rublev said he hit the equipment on his knee because there is a rule against damaging the grass at Wimbledon.

“I wouldn’t do it if I was able to hit the racket on the floor,” he told reporters. “Because we’re not allowed to hit it on the grass.. so I don’t know.. at that moment I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to let emotions out. But thanks. Everything is fine.”

The latest outburst came a month after he had a similar outburst during the French Open when he smashed a racket on his knee while also kicking a metal bench and screaming in frustration.

Rublev acknowledged that his reaction wasn’t the best way to handle his emotions.

“Of course, I didn’t behave today as in Paris, but still I could do much better,” he told the Daily Mail.

“This is not the way. Of course, it’s the main priority, to be able during all the match to be positive.”
