Shoppers have spotted an intriguing change in the meat aisle at Aldi stores around the country, with the supermarket chain now packaging its 500g beef mince in bags rather than plastic trays.
The change was made in an effort to reduce plastic usage and is being rolled out in meat sections across Australia.
In late 2022, the Jindurra Station 2 Star Beef Mince was sold in bags instead of trays in selected stores across New South Wales and Queensland as part of a 12-week trial.
Thanks to the trial’s success, more Aldi meat products will soon be available in the updated containers which use 70 per cent less plastic than trays.

The change is part of the retailer’s commitment to reduce plastic packaging by 25 per cent by the end of 2025.
Customers are getting used to the new packaging, with one saying she overlooked the product and initially thought there was no mince left.
A Gold Coast shopper told 7NEWS they were ‘surprised’ by the bags as they had never seen mince sold in them before.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw it, I was so shocked,’ they said.
‘It’s a game changer, and makes perfect sense. I used the whole pack that night for dinner, and there was a lot less packaging to throw away.’
