Peter Dutton was also asked about the prospect of losing his own seat of Dickson.

The outer-Brisbane electorate is a perennially marginal contest, and Labor has thrown significant resources at it in the hope of claiming it for the first time in decades. Anthony Albanese even began his campaign there more than a month ago.

“It’s a tight seat, it always has been,” Dutton said.

“I won it in 2001 and before that, it had only ever been held by the previous members for one term at a time.

“But I’ve worked hard. I’ve never taken support in my seat for granted, I’ve helped a lot of families through very difficult situations. We’ve provided a lot of support to local sporting clubs and infrastructure.

“And, you know, I work hard in my patch.

“The exit polling that’s out at the moment is always wildly out… so I’m confident of our position, but I never take it for granted.”
