Voters have swung towards Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over Opposition Leader Peter Dutton as the country’s preferred leader, according to the latest polls.
It’s a dramatic turnaround from last month, when 35 per cent of voters picked the prime minister to keep leading the nation and 39 per cent preferred the opposition leader.
When asked which party they’d use their first preference for, 37 per cent answered Liberal, down 2 percentage points, and 29 per cent answered Labor, up 4 percentage points.
There were also positive results for Albanese when voters were asked they would rate his performance as prime minister in recent weeks.
Of the 3237 eligible voters polled from Wednesday to Saturday, 38 per cent said the prime minister’s performance was good and 49 per cent said it was poor, giving him a big boost in net performance from minus 22 points to minus 11 points.
Dutton was given a 37 per cent rating for good and 47 per cent for poor, leaving him with a net result – poor subtracted from good – of minus 10, down 5 points from a month ago.
