Aaron Rodgers will ‘rise yet again’ after season-ending Achilles injury

Aaron Rodgers said he was “heartbroken” over the Achilles injury that ended his first season with the Jets on his first drive but seemed to indicate that he would attempt a comeback next season.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Rodgers made his first public comment since he suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in the Jets’ overtime win over the Bills.

The injury occurred just minutes into New York’s first drive and was eerily reminiscent of what happened to former Jets QB Vinny Testaverde in 1999.

“Thank you to every person that has reached out, called, texted, DM’d, connected through a friend, etc. It has meant a ton to me, and I’ll try and get back to all of you soon,” Rodgers wrote in his social media post.

“I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today.”

It was at the end of the post that Rodgers hinted at a return by paraphrasing a line popularized in the 2008 blockbuster “The Dark Knight.”

“The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again,” Rodgers said.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh had already told reporters earlier in the day that he would be “shocked” if Rodgers decided to end his career because of an injury.

“I haven’t gone down that road with him, but I’d be shocked if this is the way he’s gonna go out,” Saleh said before practice Wednesday in Florham Park.

“But at the same time for him, he’s working through a whole lot of things that he needs to deal with. That will be the last thing I talk to him about.”

For now, the Jets are sticking with former first-round pick Zach Wilson to lead the team with Rodgers out.
