LeAnn Rimes has been incredibly open about her stepmom journey, which didn’t start on the easiest of terms. In 2011, Rimes rejected the step-parent label altogether. “Step. Stepmother, Stepfather, Stepchildren — the word ‘step’ can take on such a connotation to so many in our society,” Rimes wrote on her website. Rimes also shared that she sometimes felt intimidated entering an already-established family dynamic.
In 2017, Rimes spoke with Refinery 29 and further explored her feelings about parenting during the early days of her relationship with Eddie Cibrian. “I think parenting is challenging, period,” Rimes admitted, citing that her illustrious career prevented her from having a normal childhood. “When I was first around the kids, I didn’t know what was expected of me …” she continued, adding, “It’s been a really big learning experience for me. It’s pushed my buttons, which has always made me look and see where I need more healing.”

Later in the interview, Rimes revealed that Eddie helped set the tone for their household by going out of his way to treat Rimes with respect in front of them rather than just telling them to respect her. Fortunately, it seems like Eddie’s plan worked.
