An urgent recall has been issued for batches of a popular beverage made by a South Australian wine producer over fears of a life-threatening allergy inside the wine. 

Three types of wine flavoured with herbs and spices made by the company 78 Degrees Distillery based in Adelaide, contains the toxic and undeclared substance sulphite.

The wine has been sold at bottle store Dan Murphy’s​ in New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. 

 The product BWS in SA and liquor stores across the country.

The alert from Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued on Wednesday,  said bottles of dry, rosso and rose vermouth from three batches made at the distillery were affected.

Sulphites are common in many foods, particularly wine, but it can trigger asthma attacks and potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reactions, according to health experts.

The batch codes of the affected wines include: 22060 (Dry, Rosso, Rose), 22244 (Rosso), 22333 (Dry, Rosso, Rose)​ .

Consumers who have a sulphites allergy or intolerance should not consume this product and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
